We are a small, but not exclusive, group, who want to spend rather longer over issues than most members of Philosophy 1. In the 2007-8 session we concluded our discussion of Roger Scruton's 'Modern Philosophy'. This discussion has gone on so long that many members' texts are beginning to disintegrate and philosophy has become postmodern!
None of us is a trained philosopher, and none of us has time to prepare a lecture course. Consequently we rely on the more experienced of our number to take turns at expounding sections of our text. For the session 2008-9 that will be 'Consciousness Explained', by Daniel Dennett, available as a Penguin book. Unlike most philosophy books, this takes note of developments in neurology and cognitive psychology.
